"The greatest problems of our time are not technological, for these we handle pretty well. They are not even political or economic, because the difficulties in these areas, glaring as they may be, are largely derivative. The greatest problems are moral and spiritual, and unless we can make some progress in these realms, we may not even survive." - D. Elton Trueblood
If collapse is on the horizon for American society (or just more chaos), who will guard its transcendant values as the culture goes dark? Who, today, even knows what these are? Who will secure the sacred beliefs that so illuminated our founding era and carried us later to such great heights? Who are the monks of our time that will retain the old and tested truths of faith behind strong and safe walls. Who will protect them from forgetfulness, revisionism, and eradication? Who will reinvigorate the orthodoxy? Who knows what to retain and what to allow to fall to the scrap heap of history? Who understands the ancient truths and can translate them for the generations that will rise from the ashes of our cultural chaos?
Who will sift through the faith fads and frauds that evolved from our times of plenty? Who will know enough to teach in the days ahead? Who will protect and serve the faithful? Who still knows the creeds and has the courage to profess them? Who has the skill to recreate the underground railroads and covert evangelism networks of centuries past? Who will guard the "ancient religion" as the "old republic" gives way to the real "phantom menace"?
IHS was originally created to answer just such a call. We have made our forays into youth ministry and have advised many on the culture war, but our true calling is to be faithful messengers, protectors, and witnesses for Christ in times of plenty or times of hardship. It is likely that the latter is upon America. IHS is made up of men who will guard the treasures of the faith in the years ahead. We will serve anyone we can by providing counsel, prayer support, and our presence when requested. In the meantime, IHS alumni, the active disciples, will meet to pray, to meditate, to train, and to watch.
May the peace that passes all understanding keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
